Bandsaw Sled Build
Nobody really points out grain direction when we speak about bandsaw and cross cut sleds. The second most import part of a bandsaw sled is the runner. Second only to the rear fence and how much attention you want to give to making it square. If you choose to go with a wood runner. you have a a select few options. A very stable high quality plywood like Baltic Birch, or a hard wood runner (what I went with). Here's where it gets a little tricky. The runner is wood so it will expand and contract with the seasons. Especially if your shop isn't well insulated like mine. To curb that, we can do one of two things. We can count on replacing it as often as need be with sanding sessions in between or we can be sure we select a runner with vertical grain. This option is my recommendation. With the grain running vertical we can expect the runner to move up and down, but not side to side giving us the best possible scenario to have a problem free (mostly) DIY bandsaw sled. I've made plans for this bandsaw sled build and you can get them here.
